Lorretta Lynde is a fourth-generation Montanan, raised on the Crow Indian Reservation where her Irish great-grandparents arrived as they followed the railroads west. Hers is a family of storytellers. Her father was a skilled oral storyteller, and her brother, Stan Lynde, was a well-known Western writer. Before her death in 2007, her mother, Eleanor Lynde, authored her memoir, titled Daylight in the Canyon.
